At 24.9m in length she is the largest maxi on offer in the Whitsundays and also the largest International Offshore Racing Maxi ever built. Matador was designed, developed and constructed at a cost of over US$20 million in 1991. The yacht is constructed from carbon fibre, titanium and aluminium. Matador competed in 52 races, 8 regattas and 2 Maxi world championships, and was undefeated.
What is a Maxi?
Maxi is a racing yacht class all of its own. A true Maxi was designed and built purely as a racing machine. They cost millions of dollars and Maxi yachts have to be 22 metres and over in length, Maxi yachts compete all over the world for the title of the fastest racing machine, Maxi sailing teams consist of 20 hard core sailers who are serious about competing and being No1 in thier class.
